New York City offers a unique opportunity to achieve higher education from several different schools with its public college system, The City University of New York (CUNY), alone offering 16 senior or graduate colleges and 6 community colleges across all five boroughs. Many schools also have satellite sites beyond their main campus for easier access for students.

To obtain your associate’s degree, you will take some general math, English and science courses on top of your degree courses. In your degree courses, you will take classes over ethics, history of laws and social codes, policing and correction procedures and investigations. Bachelor criminal justice programs are similar in structure to associate programs, but will require more general courses such as math, science, history and English. Master’s programs are even more specialized and focuses on the subject have chosen to study in your program and generally consists of a research project.

Each school offers financial aid assistance and accepts federal and state grants for tuition assistance. Scholarships are also available within the City University of New York and assistance is available in office and online for access to these scholarships. The city’s public university system also ensures equal tuition costs in schools across the city, though they vary between community colleges and universities and in-state and out-of-state students according to CUNY.
